A Poem for the People

                                    “princes have persecuted me
without a cause; but my heart
standeth in awe of thy word”
                                            (Psalm 119, Verse 161)

the wordy vomit lies, as ever
the people again elects Aarons, nay
the golden calf and slaughtered, soon
how many among them while princes
wax rich, destroy
the livelihood of our brothers and
smiles are beautiful to look at, on tv
YOU DIG IT, I KNOW,
SISTER WHERE ARE YOUR EYES
TURNED TO, BLINDED BLINDED
the tortured in Abu Ghraib
and the torturers who
blinded them?
The wordy, I know, vomit poison
for eaten it will stultify it will make our
intelligence wither
and cloud vision if we are
too afraid.
To do what?
Think, sister, think brother
and gather courage. Princes, I SAY
HAVE PERSECUTED
NOT ONLY ME, for good reason
And I still stand in awe
For the word promises freedom
Yours, mine
Think brother, think, sister
Gather courage and –
Yes, and join hands
