Three Poems by Pai Ch’iu

Sky

A-huo reads the sky
the way the rice plant
on his field reads it

“Water the field”
had been written in the sky by
jet
planes

A-huo the rice straw
shakes his head in the wind
“The sky is no father
The sky is no longer a father”
