HAVE WE THOUGHT OF IT?

                            have we thought of it yet
                                      have we ever learned it?
                        “to make reconciliation for iniquity”
                                     TO RIGHT WHAT IS WRONG – 
                                    Maybe there is no
                                              “everlasting righteousness”
                                                                     IN THIS WORLD
                                             No matter how we long for it
                                                And still we hold on to it,
                                                                 this ancient hope
                                                      of a humanity that's been beaten so often
                                                             this unkind mankind
                                                                  so often despaired
                                                                and so often
                                                                              driving you, to despair
                                                              and yet and yet
                                                 “to make reconciliation”
                                                              TO OVERCOME
                                                                                iniquity
                                                        Yes, we shall overcome, they sang
                                                                           as if “to seal up”
                                                                        the vision
                                                                                 and the prophecy
