Damayanthi (Ekphrastic poetry)*

I would not have chosen the same model for you 
but you talking to a swan, yes 
That I can uphold 
for that is how you punish and subdue 
Swans are graceful but a God once raped a woman 
in the form of one 
Blissfully unaware of such extremes you lean 
(and talk) 
against the bulwark of tradition 
Wishing I was invisible and knew 
what you said 
I go mad 
trying to become a swan 
or learn its language 
No Nala I 
but removed from the spaces where your gaze roams 
and your voice that never makes a moan 
I remain 
yours 
poetically 
and hope, soon 
to die.

Ich hätt' nicht dasselbe Modell für dich gewählt 
doch du, redend mit einem Schwan, ja 
das kann ich bestätigen 
denn so bestrafst und so unterwirfst du 
Schwäne sind anmutig doch ein Gott vergewaltigte einst eine Frau 
in der Form eines solchen 
Selig ahnungslos bezüglich solcher Extreme, lehnst dich 
(und sprichst) 
gegen das Bollwerk der Tradition 
Wünsch' ich wär unsichtbar und wüßte 
was du sagtest 
Ich werd' verrückt 
beim Versuch ein Schwan zu werden 
oder seine Sprache zu lernen 
Kein Nala, ich 
doch entfernt aus den Räumen wo dein Blick schweift 
und deine Stimme der nie ein Seufzer entkommt 
Ich bleib 
dein 
poetisch 
und hoffe, bald 
zu sterben.
