Shakunthala (Ekphrastic poetry)*

In my dreams you will always be mine
standing with your right foot up
tall, and lissome
turning back
to look...
the thorn in your foot forgotten
as are your thozhis who have forgotten you
and walk on
What sight has transfixed you is out of the frame
Not I
but I do not shudder or tremble
because you never were real
though I still love you.
I am only one of the birds
who looked after you
when you were in the forest
and can never be to you
more than that.

In meinem Traum wirst du immer mein sein 
wie du da stehst mit deinem erhobenen rechten Fuß
hochgewachsen, und gelenkig
drehst dich um
und blickst...
der Dorn in deinem Fuß, vergessen
wie deine thozi sind, die dich vergaßen
und weiter geh'n
Welch' Bild dich fixiert', außerhalb des Rahmens ist's wohl
Nicht ich
Aber ich schauder' nicht, noch zitter' ich
da du nie wirklich warst
wenngleich ich dich immer noch liebe.
Ich bin nur einer der Vögel 
die dich umsorgten
als du im Walde warst
und kann nie mehr 
denn dies für dich sein.
