The pain of labor calls on the
Dalit woman
While
Transplanting seedlings on the
fields.
She cuts the umbilical cord
Digs a pit on the earth
For mother earth to baby sit on
her new born.
She returns at day break
To see her new born
Entombed in a pyramid like ant
hill.

Die Geburtswehen suchen die Dalit-Frau heim
Während sie
Reisschößlinge setzt auf dem Feld.
Sie schneidet die Nabelschnur durch
Gräbt ein Loch in der Erde
damit Mutter Erde Babysitter ist für ihr Neugeborn'es.
Sie kommt zurück als es dunkelt
und sieht ihr Neugeborenes
begraben von einem pyramidenförmigen Ameisenhaufen.
